THE BUSINESS OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE
The press in the UK and India have indicated that the long-awaited trade deal between India and Britain is likely to be signed after the completion of general election in the United Kingdom. There has been a total of 14 rounds of talks on the India-UK FTA so far, with the 14th round of negotiations closed for the Indian election which saw Narendra Modi return as Prime Minister. He won a third term thanks to the backing of coalition partners in early June 2024 as his BJP party lost its outright parliamentary majority for the first time in 10 years. It is reported that chapter-wise textual negotiations have nearly been completed, and negotiations on goods and services were at an advanced stage.
