THE BUSINESS OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE
The Ministry of Trade and Exports in Tunisia said olive oil exporters with a high interest in the UK market can start direct export. The decision falls within a partnership agreement concluded last October 4 by Tunisia and the United Kingdom which came into force in January 2021. This agreement provides for the exemption of an annual quota of Tunisian olive oil (7,723 tonnes) from customs duties. This quota covers all virgin olive oil varieties in line with customs tariffs. The trade agreement with the UK covers agricultural produce exclusive of free-trade products in the shape of annual quotas and the UK has increased "Tunisia's olive oil quota tenfold" after the 2019 UK-Tunisia Association Agreement which came into force on January 1, 2021, said British Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa James Cleverly as he praised the high-quality of Tunisian olive oil. He said, "I have no doubt that when British citizens taste the Tunisian olive oil, they will become addicted to it."
