THE BUSINESS OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE
A lot has been said in recent months - not least in the pages of The Exporter - about the development of a UK Single Trade Window (STW) which is intended to create a single gateway for all transactional data from traders into government.
Although a cross-government project and priority, the STW will be delivered via HMRC, which has started to put things in motion with the appointment of a Technical Delivery Partner (TDP), and it’s going to be Deloitte, the professional services provider. Working with IBM and HMRC, Deloitte will be responsible for building and maintaining the platform on which the STW will be hosted. The value of the contract to Deloitte is £100 million.
The STW sits at the heart of the 2025 UK Border Strategy, published in December 2020. When it’s fully operational it will provide a gateway between businesses and UK border processes and systems. Users will be able to submit information only once, and in just one place, making it easy to fulfil their import, export and transit duties.
