The update should assist those trading between the UK and Japan wishing to take advantage of reduced duty rates

Published on 18 December 2019

Clear guidance material regarding the appropriate wording to be quoted on export documentation to and from Japan under the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) was published on Monday 16th December, 2019 on the EU website.

The published guidance gives clear detail on what is needed to ensure compliant use of preference origin, which should assist those trading between the UK and Japan wishing to take advantage of reduced duty rates offered under the Rules of Origin and Origin Procedures agreed under this EPA.

The paper gives clarity to the necessary supporting requirements as well as the compliance statements that are needed on the customs invoice from both the UK and Japan. It is written in clear English with footnotes to the regulations to enable further research should more detailed legal foundation information be required.
